Big Boy Bed

We are in the process of turning Rhett's room into a big boy room. It's not quite finished yet, but I'm happy to say it's close!

I had big plans for his new room when the time was right to change it. But, he wasn't quite ready for a new room. He decided that he liked the nautical theme. No biggie, and much cheaper and easier on our wallet and backs. So, boats will stay... at least for a while longer. I will post complete pics of the room once everything is done, but for now, here are some pics of the big boy bed!

My dad found the bed at a garage sale for $2o! It looked just like some that Pottery Barn Kids carries, but needed a little work.

So, Jeremy (and Rhett and I) got to work sanding, priming, painting, and repairing. I've never really "painted" furniture before. (At least not the proper way-- if spray painting doesn't count). This was a painstaking process to say the least. I don't think Jeremy or I will be painting anything else anytime soon.
My house has been turned upside down for the last month or two. It sometimes looked like a war zone. I'm thankful to have some peace and harmony back to our home!
The weather wasn't so cooperative, so much of the painting was done inside. This is mid-process. Still needing more coats.
But, Rhett LOVES his new bed. He keeps telling me, "thanks for decorating it!". Sweet boy!
Makes it all worth it!

First night in the new bed! He's so excited!

Fast asleep and dreaming of trucks!

More pics coming soon!

New Toys, A Hero and A Genius

When Rhett was a tiny baby, Jeremy climbed into the attic of his parents' house and got down a bag of old matchbox cars that Jeremy used to play with as a child. We put them in Rhett's toy box, knowing that one day, he would probably play with them. But, in all honesty, the child has too many toys, so Jeremy and I both kind of forgot about them.

Well, small cars happen to be one of Rhett's very favorite toys, and the other day, he was exploring his toy box and found the bag of old cars. He came running to me showing me all of his new treasures. He was so excited! I explained to him that his daddy saved those for him, and to that he replied (without any prompting), "Oh, my daddy is a genius!". I about fell over in my chair! Where in the world does this child learn these words?!? We promptly called Jeremy to thank him for saving the cars and Rhett told him again that he was a genius! I am sure Jeremy's heart about burst open at that moment because mine sure did and Rhett wasn't even complimenting me.

Then, a little later in the day, we were talking to my grandmother on the phone (something that we do daily). Rhett was so excited and telling her all about all of his new cars, and shouted out, "My daddy is my hero!". So sweet! And again, where does he come up with this stuff?!?

He has really enjoyed playing with these cars (even as old as they are, with paint chipping, parts missing, etc.) He doesn't seem to notice that they're not brand new, and just has the best time! Sweet boy!

A boy and his Paw Paw

Jeremy went out of town this weekend, so Rhett and I headed to my parents' house for a little while on Saturday. My mom and I attended a baby shower in their town, so my dad kept Rhett while we were gone. I would like to add that this is the first time that my dad has ever kept Rhett all by himself. I think I went through every possible scenario and situation for my dad. I must admit, I was really nervous, but I think they both had a blast.

When my mom and I got back to my parents' house, we found Rhett and my dad sitting out in the side yard, playing in a dirt pile. I snapped these pics, documenting this special bonding time between these two:

Pancakes

I found a website yesterday, Jim's Pancakes, where this guy makes all kinds of different shaped pancakes for his daughter. He's pretty talented! He even gives tutorials on Facebook. We are working on letters and sounds and trying to put together small words, so this morning, I decided to try my hand at letter pancakes!
Not too bad for my first try!

Like Father Like Son

I love to watch the relationship between Jeremy and Rhett. It makes my heart swell to see these two enjoy the same things; it's sort of like they were cut from the same cloth. And, it is so sweet to me to see the admiration that they both have for each other. Rhett truly is Jeremy's little shadow, his mini me, and his best little pal! Here are some pics I have snapped over the last few weeks documenting their relationship:
