Bad Hair Day

Rhett woke up from his nap today with some crazy hair. He doesn't have much, but what he does have was EVERYWHERE! I had to re-wet it to get it to lay down. No amount of brushing was helping. He fell asleep in the car after that and it messed it all up again. I guess today was just a bad hair day. Funny that even babies get those!

A Painting for Preslee

My best friend's (from 2nd Grade) little girl turned the BIG ONE last week. I wanted to give her a very special first birthday present. I wanted it to be from the heart, and I love homemade gifts. I wanted it to be personal, and match something. Her room is done in pink and brown and lady bugs, so I asked them to send along some pictures of her room and I created this to match:
What do ya think?

Devin's Birthday

This is the season of birthdays for us. Easter weekend was my grandma's birthday. Last weekend, we celebrated my nephew's birthday. This weekend, we celebrated a friend's child's birthday. Next weekend is another friend's child's birthday and my mother in law's birthday. Then, there is Mother's day. But, this weekend, our good friend, Devin, turned three (or last week, but this was his party). He is the son of Jeremy's childhood friend. I love that we have boys so that they can grow up and be friends like their daddies! We had the pleasure of attending his birthday party on Saturday and celebrating with him. His mommy outdid herself with decorations and favors, etc. You should see the favor bag! My two sweet guys dressed alike for the party (my idea- thanks for indulging me, honey!!!). They looked so adorable. Here are some pics from our fun-filled day. (I painted a lap desk for Devin-- they are now FOR SALE over at my other blog, Pink Hearts and Polka Dots!

Jon's Birthday

My nephew, Jon, turned 1o this past weekend. He had a carnival themed party. My sister-in-law asked me to plan the party for her. I was already planning Rhett's party and it had the same theme, so I thought that wouldn't be a problem. I had a lot of fun planning, and a lot of the stuff can be re-used for Rhett's big day in June!

I didn't get a lot of shots, but I think the kids had a fun time. They bobbed for apples, had sack races, did a water balloon toss, egg races, played carnival games, arcade games, and threw pies at my brother (what a good daddy!).

Here are a few shots of the dessert table, birthday boy, and a few more decorations!

Old frames, new pictures

Remember this post about my Goodwill trip? Well, I finally received Rhett's six month pictures in the mail a while back, and was finally able to hang the frames that I refinished. I also added a picture of Rhett and a bunny that we recently had made. I think they look great hanging in our hallway, and am glad to finally have them up!

An Easter Surprise

I know that Easter is long gone now, but I wanted to share a little Easter surprise that Rhett gave to his grandpas and cousin.

I had seen these little carrot shaped, candy-filled bags at Wal-Mart. Most of them were filled with orange jelly beans- GROSS- unless they are Jelly Bellies. I decided that they would be much better filled with M & M's. And, since we keep a stock of them for Jeremy at our house most of the time, I knew that I would have plenty. So, I got a decorator's icing bag that I had on hand, sorted through our giant bag of M & M's and picked out all of the oranges, and went to filling. I had enough to fill 3 bags full, making my nephew's bag a little smaller. Then, I tied it together with some green curling ribbon and put a cute little tag on it that I made with my Cricut, and voila! The result: a cute little Easter surprise for all of the M & M loving men in our families. And, really, since I had all of the ingredients/supplies to make it, there was no cost involved :)

A Very Special Ragamuffin

My Grandfather was one of my very favorite people in this whole, entire world. He passed almost 3 years ago, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him. Oh, how I wish that he could have met Rhett. He would be so proud, his chest might have exploded. Anyway, my grandmother spent her lifetime taking care of him, and still does after his death. She goes to his graveside almost daily and water the flowers, dusts off his tombstone, and cleans bird droppings off of the bench that sits at his grave. He was a meticulous man, and she has carried on that legacy. I know that she misses him and thinks about him daily as well. That is why on her birthday, I wanted to make something extra special for her. So, last time I was visiting her, I took some of my grandpa's old clothes and decided to make a ragamuffin garland from them. I attached a copy of an old photograph of my grandfather from when he was young. I also attached 3 wooden letters (my grandfather's initials) and a wooden heart. My grandmother seemed to really like the ragamuffin and she hung it in her room over her dresser mirror.

10 Months

Rhett turned 10 months old on the 13th of April. He is constantly changing and learning and moving everyday! He definitely keeps me on my toes and it is amazing to see his little mind at work. He is such a joy and his smile and laughter warm my heart! He loves to play, explore, laugh, talk, play with his dogs and his parents. Balls and cars are by far his favorite toys, but he also loves anything with buttons (remotes and phones). He is pulling up on EVERYTHING, cruising along anything he can reach, has learned to open cabinets (time to baby proof!) He smiles at most everyone he meets, and that just warms my heart. He is such a sweet boy and I feel so lucky to be his mommy! He has two teeth, and says "mama, dada, and bye bye." He can wave, wink, and burp on command (this is so funny- we have it on video) (typical boy). He reaches for things he wants, stops playing to get a drink all by himself, and gets into EVERYTHING he should not. He is totally fearless and definitely all boy! He is the best thing about our lives and we are head over heels for our little boy.

Whew, what a DAY!!!!

So, today was SOME KIND OF DAY! Everything started out just fine, and while Rhett was taking his morning nap, I decided to take advantage of it, and began some much needed work in the yard. Everything was going along fine. I planted some flowers in my new, free planter. I then began hanging some hanging basket brackets and other decorative pieces on our fence to get it ready for the summer. Again, everything was going along fine, and then it happened...
(Please ignore my roots- I am getting them touched up next week :))

Apparently, my hair got a little too close to the drill and wound itself all around the inside of the drill. Apparently between the chuck and motor (terms according to my husband). I didn't panic immediately. I just kept thinking, "this is not good, this is not good". I tried to put the drill in reverse, but that only wound it tighter. I later found out that my hair had split and wound itself both frontwards and backwards around the drill. So, no matter which way I wound the drill, it was making it tighter. I called my husband and asked him if the drill could be taken apart and explained the situation, and he then referred to me as "Lucy". I couldn't help but agree with him and think of what a funny sitcom situation this must be. He informed me that it could be taken apart, the chuck could be separated from the motor, but with such objects as a hammer. Huh. So, he told me to remove the battery from the bottom of the drill to make it a little lighter, then he also told me to remove the drill bit so I didn't injure myself. So, he then called his sister who lives about 5 miles from us, and asked her to come over and help. Now, I know that you all must be thinking, "why didn't you just cut your hair off?". The problem there is, the drill was about 3 inches from my scalp and it was in the front, but too far back to be bangs. So, if I were to do that, and that crossed my mind, then I would have a very strange, random hair issue in the front of my head. My sister in law arrived about 1 hour and 15 minutes later. In the meantime, Rhett had woken up from his nap, and that was quite a site, holding a drill to my head with one hand and lifting a baby up out of his crib with the other. So, I knew that I HAD to get this drill out of my hand (and off of my head). My sister in law couldn't seem to get it free, although she tried (after laughing at me and taking pictures). So, I called one of our family friends that happens to be my inlaw's neighbors. He came over, and 1 hour and 45 minutes after it all began, he had freed my hair from the grips of the drill! MY HERO! I was pretty sure that he was going to have to take the drill apart, but he managed to free my hair without doing so. He then made sure that the drill would still work, and was on his way. So, my hair survived, without being cut, but not without a little frying damage!

So, all is well, right? WRONG! I decided to heat lunch for my sister in law, nephew, Rhett and myself. I took the leftovers from last night out of the fridge, and all of a sudden, the milk, completely unopened, jumped out of the fridge. I don't even know how it happened, the leftovers were on the other side of the fridge on a totally different shelf. The milk had never been opened, and when it hit the ground, it exploded and went ALL OVER the floor, island, rug, chair, fridge, and wall. All that money down the drain (or on the floor). No use crying over spilled milk, right?!?!
Whew, what a day INDEED!

Rhett's First Easter

This post is a little late, but Rhett's first Easter was a lot of fun! We had plans to see both sets of grandparents, but my mom came down with bronchitis, a sinus infection and an upper respiratory infection, so needless to say, we didn't see my parents. We had a delicious meal Sunday evening with Jeremy's family, and Rhett looked OH SO CUTE in his Easter clothes.

The Easter bunny was very generous to Rhett this year, leaving a personalized beach towel, a huge sprinkler beach ball, some balls, some books, a sippy cup and a bunny. The Easter bunny also visited both grandparents' houses and left Rhett a little prize there as well. All in all, Rhett's first Easter was a success!
I made these Easter cookies for our celebration (very bad pic).

So much to say, yet can't find the words

Last week, my family got some very upsetting news. Some news that I don't feel comfortable sharing publicly, but those close to me that read my blog know what I am referring to. I have so many words wondering around in my head, yet I cannot seem to find the right words to say how I feel. On one hand, I feel: sad, scared, afraid, terrified, angry, mad, confused, helpless, worried. Then on the other hand, I feel: optimistic, hopeful, calm, confidant, positive, understanding, loving, helpful. And, out of all of these feelings, I still can't seem to find the right words to say or the right things to do to make everything all better. I know that I alone cannot make things all better. I know that I am not in control of this situation. I know that God is in control and He is almighty. I know that He can make things all better. I know that I need to put my trust in Him; that my whole family does. I know that I should not worry. I know all of these things, yet I cannot help all of these feelings. I look at my precious little boy and his innocence and I want that for myself, my family, even this entire world. All I can say is that I am hoping and praying, and asking everyone who reads this blog, whether you know us or not, to pray along!

Mr. Personality

My nephew, Luke, is such a character. He is funny and witty and keeps us all on our toes. Whenever we are around him, we always come away with some funny stories. For instance, the other day, he and his sister came over to play with Rhett. Luke was playing with his baby sister, and accidentally did something to hurt her. Luke's mommy asked him to tell his sister that he was sorry for hurting her and he replied, "Adoo". His mommy again asked him to apologize, and he replied, "I did...in Spanish!". What a silly little guy! We enjoy him so much and Rhett is lucky to have such a worldly cousin, speaking Spanish, at the ripe, old age of 3 1/2! ha!
