From Trash to Treasure

Today is trash day in my neighborhood! I have mentioned before how I stumbled upon someones trash which I brought home as my treasure. But, today, as I walked outside to take my trash to the curb, I noticed this:

2 lovely, chippy, red planters that my neighbor was throwing away!!! I quickly brought them home and put them straight into my backyard! I have been looking for something to add to some empty spots, and these will work perfectly! Now, I just have to figure out what I should plant inside of them!
Here is a pic of Mr. Rhett this morning in the back yard: (Just because when I brought out the camera, he said, "CHEEEEEEESE!".

Sports Engagement Party

I had the pleasure of hosting an engagement party for my Sister in Law and her fiance on Saturday night.

They are both huge sports fanatics, and I really wanted to theme the party around their love of sports. So, I found this post and knew just what I would do! What a great inspiration party to go off of, and her party was so fabulous that mine doesn't hold a candle to it!

I decorated the table in a tailgating theme, complete with a mini grill as the centerpiece. The color of the wedding is going to be yellow, so I incorporated that color into my theme with the serving pieces, plates, napkins and utensils.

We served traditional food that you would find at sporting events: Hot Dogs, Peanuts, Cracker Jacks, Cotton Candy, Giant Pickles, Soft Pretzels, Popcorn, Frito Pie and Nachos.

I made labels for all the food on yellow cardstock using a sporty font.
I love my writeable plate and use it a lot for various celebrations. The happy couple's last name will be Boggan, so we were celebrating "Team Boggan" that night.

This was the sign in table. The bride and groom to be both play sports, so I thought it would be a cute idea to make felt letters resemble the letter on a varsity letter jacket. The "G" is for Groom and the "B" for Bride. I wrote "Bride" and "Groom" down the letter and pinned it to the bride and groom to wear for the evening.

I also asked everyone to sign a "game ball" as a different twist on a guest book.
I knew I wanted to do a ticket invitation for them, so I sent over some examples to my mom and told her what color I wanted and she made these cute tickets. I especially love how it says "Taffy loVeS Craig". She highlighted the "V and S" to make it appear to say "vs.". I thought that was pretty creative.
These pics are horrible, but I wanted to show how I asked everyone to sign the ball. I printed out words on yellow cardstock to the tune of "Take me out to the ballgame" and changed the words a bit to make it work for our situation.
Here is a closer look at the centerpiece. The grill was our gift to the happy couple. My other sister in law, Heather, made the baseball cake. I also copied my inspiration party's flower arrangements and filled them with charcoal to complete the tailgating theme. I filled the vases with daffodils that I purchased at Wal-Mart. I purchased all daffodil bulbs, and cut the flowers off, and then planted the bulbs. This was my way of being "green" and cost conscious by planting the bulbs that will (hopefully) re-bloom year after year!

My sister in law came up with a cute way to ask for her bridal party to be in her wedding. At the party, she presented each bridesmaid with a yellow envelope. Inside the envelope was the above.

When you removed the paper dolls, there was information pertaining to the wedding.And these cute paper dolls with matching hair. I thought this was SUCH a CUTE idea!!

All in all, it was a fun evening and my husband and I were happy to host this celebration. Wedding planning is now in full effect and I cannot wait! Look for more wedding related posts coming soon!

Erin Go Bragh!

I really have no idea what that means exactly!

Today, Rhett and I hosted a St. Patty's Playdate with a green theme! I asked everyone to bring a green dish, and we had a lot of fun! We had green veggies and green fruit, guacamole, mint cookies, cookies with green sprinkles, a St. Patty's day cookie cake, celery and cheese,pickles and olive, limeade, mint tea, green tea and apple juice. Sounds like quite the menu, but I think everyone filled up on the goodies! The most important part was that all of the kiddos had a fun time playing! Can't wait til Easter when I can plan another themed playdate!

Screen Door

I love Springtime!!! I love to have the windows open and let the breeze blow in. I have so badly wanted a screen door for our back door since we moved in to this house almost 5 years ago. Well, this Christmas, I received a screen door from my inlaws. It took some convincing to get my dad over to hang it for me, but last week he finally did!


I think I have had the door open almost every day since! It works so well. It keeps the dogs in (or out), keeps the bugs out, lets the breeze in, and most importantly, keeps a certain little boy from going out into the mud!

I love it!

Chalk Caddy

Remember my chalkboard door from here? Well, I never was able to keep chalk in a good spot to easily access it for writing on the door. Rhett loves to write on the door too, and I needed a quick way to get chalk without going to the kitchen to hunt some down before he lost interest. So, I made this:



I found the hook for $5 at Pier 1. (A little pricey, but I liked the red knobs on it. Plus, we were just in the store to browse and Rhett broke a glass item, so I felt obligated to buy something. When that happens... look for the cheapest item in the store! lol!)

I got the bucket in the Dollar Spot at Target. The color matched the room perfectly! And, it holds a TON of chalk! This door leads to our garage, so I also put Rhett's sidewalk chalk in it. I can easily grab some and walk outside to the driveway.

I even wrote "Chalk" on the bucket but took these pics before then. It's a pain to upload pics to my computer, or I'd take a new one!

...how to get to Sesame Street?

Yesterday, we attended "Sesame Street Live" courtesy of Granda! I was a little unsure of how Rhett would do. First, it was a 2 hour event... where he would have to sit... still... for 2 hours! Secondly, Halloween was really scary for him. Yes, he was younger then, but not much. And, he hasn't had many encounters with giant (friendly) monsters parading around. But, they were going to be on a stage, so we thought we'd give it a try. I was so surprised at how well he did! He sat quietly and watched, clapped and pointed! He is really turning in to such a big boy!
During intermission, they came out with a ton of these Elmo balloons. People flocked to the balloon man. The line was crazy! These balloons were $10 each! People were buying 4 of them at a time! Crazy! Rhett's Granda thought he needed one too, so he received a $10 balloon courtesy of Granda! I saw at least two of these things on the ceiling! I bet those people were not too happy! After the madness died down (and the balloon man sold out for the time being), they made an announcement over the PA system to put your balloon under your chair for the remainder of the show. It made sense, but what a beating! They should have just waited until after the show was over or something. But, I am no marketing expert, and they seemed to be successful at selling them no matter where people had to put them for the remainder of the show!

All in all, it was a good show. I even thought it was entertaining! Rhett really enjoyed it, and is loving playing with his $10 balloon! ha!
